There are several ways you can support Friends of Fair Park today. We accept online donations for our general fund and the Virginia McAlester Fund to preserves the Magnolia Lounge, the home of Friends of Fair Park.
Virginia McAlester Fund In 1987, the Magnolia Lounge in Fair Park was threatened with demolition. Built in 1936, it served as Magnolia Oil Company's hospitality suite during the Texas Centennial. Led by author, architectural historian, preservationist, and political activist Virginia Savage McAlester, business leaders, historic preservationists, and Fair Park advocates founded Friends of Fair Park to restore the Magnolia. They raised $750,000 and then decided to focus on restoring the entire Park. Today, the Magnolia Lounge houses the offices of Friends of Fair Park and the Margo Jones Theater thrives again as a venue for small and emerging theatre companies. In honor of Virginia's dedication to historic preservation and, in particular, her devotion to Fair Park, Friends of Fair Park has created the Virginia McAlester Fund. |
